Rare Black 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon

Rare Black 2021 Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon - Single Vineyard

We’re excited to announce the release of our Rare Block 2021 Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon—the first vintage in three years, just in time for International Cabernet Day! We only bottle this wine in truly exceptional vintages, and 2021 was definitely worth the wait.

With only two barrels made from the low-yielding Rare Block, stocks are limited, so we recommend getting in early.

The Barossa Valley, quite rightly, trumpets its Shiraz wines to the world and generally leaves other regions to make the noise about Cabernet Sauvignon. Is this about to change I wonder?

Rare Black Cabernet Sauvignon is certainly raising the flag for Barossa Cabernet.  The aroma is pure-play red capsicum; now there’s a varietal hallmark if ever there was one.  The palate is medium-bodied with spicy, toasty French oak and coffee bean aromas and flavours.

The 2021 Barossa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep, inky color with a complex bouquet of blackberry, cassis, and dark plum intertwined with subtle hints of mint, roasted red capsicum, and cedar. On the palate, it offers a full-bodied experience with rich layers of blackberry, and dark chocolate, balanced by fine-grained tannins and a touch of earthiness. The finish is long and elegant, leaving lingering notes of ripe fruit and a whisper of spice. This wine showcases the hallmark power and structure of Barossa Cabernet, with the potential to develop even further over the next decade.

A stunning Cab from an unexpected quarter!

Although the Barossa (and Atze’s Corner) is better known for its Shiraz, this Cab is an absolute stunner! Very deep in colour as its name suggests, the nose is complex with hints of cedar, Huon pine, eucalyptus and coffee bean, along with a vegetal twist of freshly chopped red capsicum. The taste is a mix of black fruits, mocha, and dark chocolate. Velvety tannins and a long finish like rolling thunder underscore the opulence of this absolutely delicious drop!

Atze’s rare...gold!

Rarely have I come across a black ink coloured red that tantalises the nostrils yet delivers so much more. The palate lingers long after the paired food disappears whilst calling out for more food and another sip. Amazing!
