In its first year, disaster struck this small vineyard when a group of sheep, affectionately called “The Mob,” found their way through a hole in the fence. They ravaged the entire plot, leaving the vines nearly destroyed. But these resilient young vines, growing on Barossa’s ironstone and red clay, made a miraculous comeback. Three years later, the first harvest yielded grapes of unparalleled quality.

The Mob Montepulciano is sourced from a single hectare vineyard with shallow clay loam topsoil over deep red clay, scattered with ironstone. Nestled on an east-facing slope, the vineyard produces low yields (2.5 tonnes per acre), resulting in concentrated, high-quality fruit.

Maturation:
The wine spent 15 months in a mix of third and fourth-fill French and American oak hogsheads, softening the tannins and adding subtle hints of oak.
