Unveiling The Mob Montepulciano: A Rare Limited Edition Wine
Welcome to the exclusive world of The Mob Montepulciano – a wine like no other, where rarity meets drama and a tale of triumph unfolds. With only 150 dozen bottles crafted, this extravagant wine is a true gem waiting to be savored by a fortunate few.
The Dramatic Story: In its inaugural year, a mischievous group of sheep, affectionately named "The Mob," managed to infiltrate our vineyard through a tiny gap in the fence. A tragedy befell the vines, leaving the tiny patch of estate devastated. However, these tough vines proved their resilience. Three years later, they delivered a crop of grapes second to none, a testament to the beauty of growing on ironstone and red clay. From central Italy, Montepulciano is celebrated for its savory tannins and juicy fruit.
Tasting Note: A deep, dark purple hue foretells the great potential of The Mob Montepulciano. Its intense aroma captivates with candied, dark fruits, cracked pepper, and mocha. Upon sipping, the wine seamlessly comes together. Medium-bodied with silky, savory tannins gracefully framing the fruit – blackberries, zippy raspberries, and succulent blueberries create an irresistible symphony.
Pairing: This red wine is tailor-made for umami-rich foods. Pair it with a succulent rack of lamb or indulge in the earthy goodness of a mushroom risotto for a culinary experience to remember.
Production: Limited to a mere 150 dozen bottles, each sip of The Mob Montepulciano is a true privilege.
Alcohol: 14%
Maturation: Aged for 18 months in a mix of 3rd and 4th fill French Oak Hogsheads, this wine bears subtle hints of oak, allowing the chewy raw tannins to soften out gracefully.
Viticulture: Our single cordon spur (hand) pruned vines ensure low yield and exceptional fruit quality, producing a mere 2 tonnes per acre.
Single Vineyard: Planted in 2009 on 1 hectare of land with scattered ironstone and shallow clay loam over white sandstone. Nestled on an east-facing slope in the Koonunga subregion, The Mob Montepulciano enjoys an elevation of 300 meters.
Cellaring: This wine is ready to be enjoyed now, yet its aging potential promises delightful evolution until 2030.
Embrace the rarity and splendor of The Mob Montepulciano, where every sip tells a tale of resilience and triumph. Secure your place in history with this limited edition masterpiece and savor the enchanting flavors of this extraordinary wine.

Andy has adopted Montepulciano along with a swathe of other Italian varieties, introduced them to his family’s Barossa vineyards and is making the wine with his usual flair. But it was a close run thing with the Montepulciano; a mob of excited sheep nearly grazed the young vines to death. Resurrected, and I suppose, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, the 2016 vintage has produced a cracking wine. |

Inspired by the old Roses brought to the Barossa by our German ancestors in the 1800s. Originally grown in their gardens, these roses now bloom around our vineyards to declare summer's arrival. Vermentino, our estate’s only white variety, has an amazing harmony with our warm Mediterranean summers. Fresh acidity, zesty citrus flavours, and delicate floral notes.
Vermentino wine has been a part of the Atze’s range for several vintages now and as the vines mature, Andy’s ideas about how he wants the wine made, and how he wants to drink the wine have developed. We’re now seeing a wine with a little more longevity and an extra degree of zest.
Vermentino hailing from the sunny Mediterranean coasts of France and Italy, is well suited to the Barossa Valley where it soaks up the warm summer days and keeps its fresh acidity.
In Spring you can see the wild roses flowering as they lay scattered across the vineyard floor.
Vinified quite simply and bottled young this Vermentino wine is all about limey citrus and zesty, fresh tangy fruit stunning lingering flavours of honeysuckle and peach. Dry and utterly refreshing this is the perfect wine to drink right through the spring and summer.
