Our History in Viticulture and Farming
The Kalleske family’s story began in 1838 when Johann Georg Kalleske and his family emigrated from Prussia to South Australia, seeking freedom and new opportunities. They settled in Klemzig and later Hahndorf, two of South Australia’s first German villages, established by migrants escaping religious persecution. Initially focusing on general farming, the family soon recognized the agricultural potential of the region. By 1847, they moved to the Barossa Valley, drawn by its fertile soils and promising future, and began laying the foundation for generations of viticulture and winemaking.
Over the decades, the Kalleske family expanded their holdings across the Barossa, cultivating vineyards and perfecting their craft. Their deep connection to the land, combined with their tireless dedication, shaped a legacy that lives on today. Atze’s Corner stands as a proud symbol of this enduring passion, built on nearly two centuries of family tradition and agricultural excellence in the Barossa Valley.
