NEW RELEASE VINTAGE 2021
When you’re looking for the archetypal Barossa Valley Shiraz, look no further than this broodingly intense red. The core of this magnificent wine comes from three Old Vine vineyards planted by the Atze family in 1912, 1951 and 1975. There two workers Eddies Staehr (Andy Kalleske's great uncle) and Eddies Liebig planted the oldest of these three vineyards in 1912.
Pristine and youthfully deep, it’s virtually impenetrable, with the ruby red colour showing the power and concentration that low yielding, seriously old vines provide. A gloriously aromatic bouquet led by sweet spices and backed up by damson plum, dark chocolate and the most subtle of toasty oak.
The rich, enveloping palate is lush and smooth with bright fruit; dark cherries and Christmas cake made all the more complex by the layers of spices: cloves, cinnamon and anise. As anticipated, the finish is uber-long with a savoury, umami note that leaves you wanting another sip.
Pairing: Grilled or roast beef with a pepper sauce, slow roast lamb
shank, barbequed or flame grilled red meats.
Alcohol: 15 %
Fermentation: 21 Day extended maceration time on skins, hand
plunged, secondary ferment in barrel.
Maturation: 30 Months in 50% new French Oak, 50% second fill
French oak barrels.
Cellaring: For a wine so young, and one with so much potential to
mature, Eddies Old Vine is drinking startlingly well right now. But
don’t be fooled; this wine will last and last for 25 years with a good
cellar and self-control!.

Named in honour of the two Barossans who planted a vineyard in 1912, The Eddies Old Vine Shiraz celebrates the Barossa’s irreplaceable treasure-trove of old vineyards. Combining the fruit from a rare ancient vineyard, planted in 1912, with fruit from a 59 year old vineyard and a 1975 block, Andy Kalleske has captured the essence of these ancient vines which his parents, Barb and John have been nurturing for forty years. |
Vintage: |
2021 was an exceptionally early vintage due to a warmer than average ripening period, giving the wines their full bodied and intense concentrated black fruit characters. |

Inspired by the old Roses brought to the Barossa by our German ancestors in the 1800s. Originally grown in their gardens, these roses now bloom around our vineyards to declare summer's arrival. Vermentino, our estate’s only white variety, has an amazing harmony with our warm Mediterranean summers. Fresh acidity, zesty citrus flavours, and delicate floral notes.
Vermentino wine has been a part of the Atze’s range for several vintages now and as the vines mature, Andy’s ideas about how he wants the wine made, and how he wants to drink the wine have developed. We’re now seeing a wine with a little more longevity and an extra degree of zest.
Vermentino hailing from the sunny Mediterranean coasts of France and Italy, is well suited to the Barossa Valley where it soaks up the warm summer days and keeps its fresh acidity.
In Spring you can see the wild roses flowering as they lay scattered across the vineyard floor.
Vinified quite simply and bottled young this Vermentino wine is all about limey citrus and zesty, fresh tangy fruit stunning lingering flavours of honeysuckle and peach. Dry and utterly refreshing this is the perfect wine to drink right through the spring and summer.

Introducing Bachelor Shiraz a tribute to Bert's Barossa Legacy
We are delighted to present Bachelor Shiraz, a wine that pays homage to the rich history of the Barossa Valley and the enduring spirit of the man who once worked the very land from which this exceptional fruit is sourced. Named after Bert Kleining, a beloved bachelor who toiled on the land, this wine is a true testament to the legacy of passion and dedication.
Tasting Note: Bachelor Shiraz showcases a deep ruby red hue, hinting at the depth within. On the nose, enchanting notes of raspberry and red plum lead the way. The palate is a symphony of complexity, unveiling ripe tannins, tantalizing toasted bread, and vanilla aromas, intertwined with a delightful spicy character of cloves and white pepper.
Pairing: Embrace the splendor of Bert's Legacy Shiraz with high-grade Wagyu steak or indulge in the tender succulence of slow-roast lamb. Its versatility allows for an array of delectable pairings to elevate your dining experience.
Alcohol: 14.5%
Maturation: Aged for 22 months in a mix of 20% New French oak and 3rd and 4th fill French and American Oak Hogsheads, this wine boasts stunning oak smoothness and a rich mouthfeel, adding depth to its remarkable character.
Vineyard: Bachelor Shiraz hails from vines planted between 1951 and 2000. The single cordon spur (hand) pruned vines ensure low yield and high-grade fruit production, with each vine tended to with utmost care.
Sub Regions: Sourced from the iconic subregion of Koonunga, located at the Northern tip of the Barossa Valley, the vines thrive in ancient Red/Brown Clay loam over deep red clay, revealing the secret to the wine's concentration and structure.
Elevation: 270-290 Metres
Cellaring: While this wine is ready to be enjoyed now, its potential for aging gracefully is exceptional, with the promise of evolving beautifully until 2032. For the ultimate experience, be sure to decant and allow its true quality to shine.
Experience the heritage and heart of Bert's Legacy Shiraz. Raise your glass in tribute to a tale of dedication and love for the land, and savor the essence of the Barossa Valley in every luxurious sip.

Tasted the Zen Master at the Atzes wine Dinner at Charcoal Grill on the Hill and it was outstanding so i bought some
This is an absolutely fabulous red. I have only been drinking shiraz for a short while, being mainly a sauvignon blanc drinker. My husband and I went on a tasting to Atze where we sampled many wines, this being the last tasting. It was worth the wait. Absolutely beautiful drop that was a must to take home. Was saving it for our anniversary but couldn't help ourselves and ended up drinking it early. So of course bought another. Maybe this one will last for a few more months. We will see.
