When you’re looking for the archetypal Barossa Valley Shiraz, look no further than this broodingly intense red. The core of this magnificent wine comes from three Old Vine vineyards planted by the Atze family in 1912, 1951 and 1975. There two workers Eddies Staehr (Andy Kalleske's great uncle) and Eddies Liebig planted the oldest of these three vineyards in 1912.
Pristine and youthfully deep, it’s virtually impenetrable, with the ruby red colour showing the power and concentration that low yielding, seriously old vines provide. A gloriously aromatic bouquet led by sweet spices and backed up by damson plum, dark chocolate and the most subtle of toasty oak.
The rich, enveloping palate is lush and smooth with bright fruit; dark cherries and Christmas cake made all the more complex by the layers of spices: cloves, cinnamon and anise. As anticipated, the finish is uber-long with a savoury, umami note that leaves you wanting another sip.

When you’re looking for archetypal Barossa Valley Shiraz look no further than this magnificent wine. The core of the wine is a century-and-a-bit old vineyard planted by the Eddies who give their name to the wine. Their plantings, together with two other old vine vineyards owned by the Kalleske family make up this broodingly intense red. |

21 days extended maceration time on skins. Secondary fermentation in oak Barrels. Barrel ferment. 22 Months in 25% New French, 25% New American, 50% 2nd fill French and American Oak Hogshead (300 litres) barrels. |
Vineyard: |
Named in honour of the two Barossans who planted a vineyard in 1912, The Eddies Old Vine Shiraz celebrates the Barossa’s irreplaceable treasure-trove of old vineyards. Combining the fruit from a rare ancient vineyard, planted in 1912, with fruit from a 59 year old vineyard and a 1975 block, Andy Kalleske has captured the essence of these ancient vines which his parents, Barb and John have been nurturing for forty years. |
Vintage: |
2018 was an exceptionally early vintage due to a warmer than average ripening period, giving the wines their full bodied and intense concentrated black fruit characters. |

2020 Vintage - Grenache Shiraz Mataro
Shiraz often steals the limelight in the Barossa Valley. However, local vignerons know that the careful blending of Shiraz with Mataro and Grenache results in something better than the sum of their parts. At Atze’s Corner, we’ve followed this practice to create an A-label estate wine: our Barossa Valley Estate Grenache Shiraz Mataro.
This GSM wine (Grenache Shiraz Mataro) is vibrantly purple. Its tone betrays the presence of that deeply-coloured, muscular Mataro, which builds on the hues of the Australia Grenache and Shiraz. On the bouquet of this Grenache red wine, you can enjoy the sweet compote notes of blackcurrants and raspberries. It’s a complex, fascinating bouquet which keeps you going back for more.
The palate of this GSM wine is precise and bright, with layered, elegant tannins supporting plush, ripe dark berries and sweet red cherries. The acidity, which is retained in the wine, adds an extra element of freshness and vibrancy which lingers on the palate. The aroma of the wine is characterized by notes of pepper, sage, and herb.
The Makeup of Our Indulgent GSM
An excellent GSM calls for the perfect harmony among Grenache, Shiraz, and Mataro. At Atze’s Corner, we’ve cracked the code: we use 60 percent Grenache wine with 30 percent Shiraz and 10 percent Mataro. The Grenache wine stays for just eight months in barrels, whereas the other two require a full 12 months to reach maturity.
Our 2016 estate wine is exceptionally flavorful due to the warm and dry summer our vineyard experienced. These weather patterns allowed the fruit develop to the optimal weight and balance to create a superb GSM.
If you’re new to blended wines, our GSM makes for the perfect introduction. It takes the best of three well-loved wines from Barossa and combines them in a way that allows you to appreciate what each has to offer, without any one being overpowering.
Review by Andrew Graham, Australian Wine Review.
There’s a real exuberance to this wine. An energy of Grenache raspberry fruit, the plum Shiraz and licorice Mataro hints, and just a faint bitterness on the finish. Grenache is the star here, and gee it’s a convincing wine. Low acid only enhances the drinkability. Yum. Best drinking: 2017-2028. 18/20, 93/100. 14.5%, $24.95. Would I buy it? Absolutely.

Special wines delivered by good people. I can't stop ordering, mainly because we can't stop drinking the fine product. Do yourself a favour....
When you want to enjoy a quality classic Barossa shiraz but you don't want a second mortgage, Eddies Old Vine is what you are looking. Dark plum, super soft and smooth, delicious fruit and a characteristic 'praline' like flavour that just makes me pour another glass!
Great classic Shiraz and great value.
This is my favourite wine all time. Been having it since 2006 vintage and never get sick of it. Always a step above most other quality wines. Silky smooth, dark and rich, flavourful.
Loved it, reccommend!
